What kind of culture influences through technology can you see from today’s world?

There is little doubt that communication technologies have changed the cultures of organizations, whether the structure of belief present in any single organization is comprehensive and shared, or fragmented, fraught with conflict, and ultimately contested. Additionally, there is no doubt that the arena of work life provides only the tip of the iceberg for examining questions fundamental to the human experience and its relationship with technology.

An example that was important in the history of ethology was the decade before an Peugeot send a letter to house and house. Then, humans on that time use smoke to communicate each other. Sometimes, they use an owl to send news. This part we can see in Harry Potter series. so on

Nowadays, the mobile phone users have become very intelligent and tech-savvy. These users seek those gadgets which are embedded with multi-functional capabilities and innovative features in order to define their distinct style statements.

In the recent years, a severe competition has taken place in the arena of communication throughout the world. As result of that, the mobile phone manufactures are striving their best to introduce innovative and distinct gadgets in the market to attract the tech-savvy users. It is generally assumed that to thrive well in a competitive market one has to produce distinguished and innovated handsets in an endeavour to out-compete others. It has also become one of the best ways to garb the attention of the contemporary enthusiasts.

Is there a possibility to reshape the (new) culture today via new technology, How?

Yes, it does. Many possibility to design the new one. Such as "Duke" comes with various features like traffic card function, 6.09(2.4inch) QVGA LCD screen, MP3 player, electronic dictionary, document viewer, multitasking and wireless headset using Blue-tooth technology. So, the latest version will have better and more function that make humans life more easier.

Personal reflection in class.

So far, i really enjoyed the class as Mdm Helena has showed us the video. After that we submit our second assignment on Role of Media on Socializing then i feel so happy as this is the last topic for blog assignment. hooreyyyy!!!

The documentary entitled "The Power of Nightmares (Part 3 - Shadow in the Cave)" by Adam Curtis was shown in class on Monday. How do you relate the information given to you in the documentary to the theory of Media Imperialism that we talked about in lecture?


Media Imperialism

Media Imperialism is a theory stating that the smaller countries will lose their identity due to the force feeding media from larger nations. "The Power of Nightmares( Part 3 - Shadow in the Cave)" by Adam Curtis talked about September 11 American under attack by Osama bin Laden from Pakistan and how the the media affect's the viewer's mind as they started to question and predict what would happen next and how to capture Osama bin Laden. The powerful countries can control over others countries and even swallow them up. The media content that publishes by the media which is under the powerful countries might not be true.


My critical reflection:
After watch the documentary and read the slide, US government was spreading their "fantasy story" about terrorism by using media. We can see how powerful the media is as it can poisoning peoples mind with the information given. Media Imperialism relates really well with this documentary because international terrorism is cause by Media it self. Some countries make it seem as though what they're conveying is totally believable and some people may think that these things are really going to happen. From my point of view the media only makes things worst and the country with bigger power rules over the media and is able to send out any kind of message for the world to see.

About the intrepid BBC team. To me, they are able to interview with experts to show how the media controlled by; then they are also controlling the media. The different is they are doing the right way; they tell the public truth but not abuse their power. The media content from this media imperialism can be trust since they are revealing the truth but not after the interest behind it.

Personal reflection:
This week, the class is not fun as usual because lots of student absent as they're rushing to complete their design fundamental assessment that is on the next day. Hurm, bout the video that been showed, it's interesting:)i enjoy it

topic for this week..

Using McLuhan's "Tetrad of Media" choose a medium or media application or tool (e.g. newspaper, books, radio, tv, film, internet, computer games, handphone, instant messaging, blogging, online advertising, youtube, facebook etc.) and explain its media effects.

Critical Reflection
I choose a mobile phone. It also called as cellphone or handphone. It is a long-range electronic device used for mobile voice or data communication over a network of specialized base stations known as cell sites. It has standard voice function and accessories of a mobile phone. Such as SMS for text messanging, email, packet switching for access to the internet, gamming, bluetooth, infrared, camera with video recorder and MMS for sending and receiving photos and video, MP3 player, radio and GPRS. A mobile phone proper typically has a keypad and some of them have a touchscreen. For me it's a powerful base station covering a wide area. Mobile phone is having a profound impact both economically and socially. Like it's electronic cousins (the TV and pc).

There is now a considerable body of evidence proving that microwave radiation from mobile phones and cordless phones causes brain tumors, disturbed brain function and other health disturbances. The reason is that their microwave radiation has harmful effects at intensity levels far below the values still declared as safe. These safety norms are unacceptable and must be update, now that it is confirmed by a considerable body of evidence that they permit far too strong radiation. The conclusion is people should be very restrictive with using mobile phones as there is a significant body of compelling scientific evidence indicating serious hazardz from their usage. Therefore, reduce the usage to very few and brief calls. Moreover, it has been repeatedly confirmed that the radiation from base stations is harmful to health. In the analysis of the effect of mobile phone equipment on the semen it was noted that an increase in the percentage of sperm cells of abnormal morphology is associated with the duration of exposure to the waves emitted by the mobile phone. It was also confirmed that a decrease in the percentage of sperm cells in the vital progressing motility in the semen is correlated with the frequency of using mobile phone. A decrease in the percentage of live sperm cell in a vital, progressive motility in semen is correlated with the frequency of usage of mobile phones.


The four laws of media further exhibit McLuhan's abiding concern with pedagogy. It's to be used as tools to analyze the patterns of effects that different technologies produce. Although McLuhan sometimes talked about them as succeeding in a chronogical order. The tetrad is not meant to be a scientific tool, but one for exploration of the "grammar and syntax" of each artefact.

Personal reflection:
For me, this week mlc class is more enjoyful because i think i pay attention while the lecturer is at front. Overall, what had lecturer tell us is important and easily for student to understand the lecture class. Lastly, i hope that there's no more assignment. For me this week is 'Stress Week' because lots of assignment must be done ASAP.

  1. Lower the volume of your voice if you are using your phone in a public place. The microphone on the phone is very sensitive, and those around you are unlikely to be interested in your private conversation.
  2. Turn the phone off or set it to the silent-vibrate function when at religious gatherings, at business meetings, at a movie or other public event, or in a restaurant.
  3. Do not use a hand-held phone while driving.
  4. Using a mobile phone while driving may be as dangerous as driving under the influence of alcohol

What is the different of obscenity,pornography and indecency?

well, based on what i've read from internet. Obscenity is a legal term that applies to anything offensive to morals and is often equated with the term pornography. It also something that is obscene. Another sticking point in obscenity prosecutions involves the often overbroad interpretation of what is obscene. In recent years, state appellate courts have struck down laws that made it criminally obscene for a parent to photograph his or her own child playing in a bathtub or running nude on a beach.

Pornography, however, is a more limited term, which refers to the erotic content of books, magazines, films, and recordings. Obscenity includes pornography, but may also include nude dancing, sexually oriented commercial telephone messages, and scatological comedy routines. U.S. courts have had a difficult time determining what is obscene. This problem has serious implications, because if an act or an item is deemed obscene, it is not protected by the First Amendment. Pornography application examples is still and moving images, usually of women, in varying states of nudity, posing or performing erotic acts with men, women, animals, machines, or other props. Some say it degrades women, some say it corrupts young boys (who down-load it from the world wide web or exchange it on floppy disks). Most of it is in the form of JPEG images. Many web sites offer porn of all sorts, almost always for a subscription. It is said that these are a driving force in the evolution of new technology and techniques for the web. Advertisments for them certainly constitute a significant proportion of all spam. There are even pornographic computer games, an early example being Mac Playmate. Beware - many institutions, particularly universities, have strict rules against their computers and networks being used to transfer or store such things, and you might get corrupted.

Indecency is the state or a quality of being indecent,lack of modesty,taste or a propriety.

I think this three different words give almost the same meaning.

As for mlc class on this week. Nothing much to say. Mr RadziBedu coming into class and tell us to do this 800 words essay. Hopefully, my essay will achieve the standard so that I can get high marks and get no more assignment. Overall, i enjoy to go to mlc class. huhu:)

What is Media Literacy?

Based on what i've read from the internet. Media literacy is the process of accessing, analyzing, evaluating and creating messages in a wide variety of media modes, genres and forms. It uses an inquiry-based instructional model that encourages people to ask questions about what they watch, see, and read. Media literacy education provides tools to help people critically analyze messages to detect propaganda, censorship, and bias in news and public affairs programming (and the reasons for such), and to understand how structural features -- such as media ownership, or its funding mode techniques) and understand the role of mass media and participatory media in constructing views of reality. Affect the information presented. Media literacy aims to enable people to be skillful creators and producers of media messages, both to facilitate an understanding as to the strengths and limitations of each medium, as well as to create independent media. Media literacy is an expanded conceptualization of literacy. By transforming the process of media consumption into an active and critical process, people gain greater awareness of the potential for misrepresentation and manipulation (especially through commercials and public relations...

Media literacy is the ability to access, analyze, evaluate and produce a variety of media texts. Media education refers to the process of teaching media literacy. In the United States alone, there exists many different perspectives on how to media educate youth, but not all of them agree on what extent youth audiences are active participants. PLAY moves beyond a passive approach to media and youth.

Why Media Literacy is important for FCM students?
  • It's important for making media skills.
  • Experience all the arts as no other age has ever done.
  • The media are carefully planned, designed and constructed products.
  • Help us to understand the workings or our immediate world, and our individual places in it.
  • The media help us to learn technology by adopting the leading edge of modern technological innovation.
  • The media interpret our world, it gives values and ideas.
  • It's explain to us how things work.

Personal reflection on media culture class:

Overall, i enjoy the class when the lecturer show the movies. Sometimes i feel sleepy because i don't get enough sleep. The class also happening while the lecturer discussing on the topics. Basically, lots of students pay attention in class and i'm happy when there's no class for tutorial media culture. So that, i have much time to finish the assignment.:D

what is media stereotype?

based on what i've read on the internet..stereotype mean:

A stereotype is a preconceived idea that attributes certain characteristics (in general) to all the members of class or set. The term is often used with a negative connotation when referring to an oversimplified, exaggerated, or demeaning assumption that a particular individual possesses the characteristics associated with the class due to his or her membership in it. Stereotypes can be used to deny individuals respect or legitimacy based on their membership in that group.

Stereotypes often form the basis of prejudice and are usually employed to explain real or imaginary differences due to race, gender, religion, ethnicity, socio-economic class, disability, occupation, etc. A stereotype can be a conventional and oversimplified conception, opinion, or image based on the belief that there are attitudes, appearances, or behaviors shared by all members of a group. Stereotypes are forms of social consensus rather than individual judgments. Stereotypes are sometimes formed by a previous illusory correlation, a false association between two variables that are loosely correlated if correlated at all. Stereotypes may be occasionally positive.

My opinion:

ermm..i think stereotype is just what people think around them..Stereotypes can be either positive or negative, but they are all unfair and misleading. In general, stereotypes reduce individuals to a rigid, inflexible image; they do not account for the fact that human beings are complex and multidimensional, with unique attributes. Stereotypes suggest that people or groups of people are the same, when, in fact, they are quite different. Stereotypes about human beings tend to dehumanize people, placing all members of a group into one, simple category.Then, i've read this from internet, it's quite interesting i guess.

One black student began Of twenty-nine black students present, and twenty-four agreed with the speaker that they were inferior, and most of all they believed that there inferiority was inherited. No matter what happened during their upbringing, it would not change that fact. And education was absolutely useless in their world, They believed.

The students had such an unfavorable opinion of themselves that they accepted the stereotyped image.

This article outlined the tragic results of negative self image and stereotypes among the black students.

In general they believed that:

  • Blacks were poor and stay poor because they are have less of a chance of success, than Whites and Asians.
  • The only way to success is to be a Rapper, Ball Player or a Hustler i.e (Drug Dealer).
  • Black kids that do their schoolwork and behave, want to be White. White kids who do poorly or dress cool want to be black. Hispanic kids want to be black because they are not as smart as Whites and Asians.
  • Black people don't need to work hard because it won't matter in the end.
In their striking rejection of their own culture, these young men were not defining themselves. They were defining their environment- including the racists, rappers, politicians, celebrities, entertainers, the so-called race leaders, and most of all their parents are most to blame for not breaking down the walls that hold their kids back..

so, it's just what we see and dont easily judge people like that..

Personal reflection in class :

There's no class for this week...i guess students can have their own time in their room doing the assignment...hoho..much happier i think...LOL...ermm the class also as usual...student is listening and some students playing with their phone...but all is focusing right!! overall, i enjoy the media culture class...

No, because the source in the internet is not all true, some of it is wrong by other people who can edited it by them itself. Let take an easy example, Wikipedia. This web has known for all, and this web can easily be edited by any people weather it is wrong or right. We can't easily trust this web because the source could be from people who gave their own thought as a source for all. Own thought is not probably wright because it should state a source of something that is fact.
